What this error means

Water inlet or door fault — the dishwasher has not filled correctly or the door is not secured

The F01 error on an Indesit dishwasher indicates either that the machine has not detected sufficient water entering during the fill phase, or that the door has not been confirmed as securely closed before filling began. These two conditions share the same code because both prevent the cycle from starting safely. Common causes are a closed water tap, a kinked inlet hose, a blocked inlet filter, a faulty inlet valve, or a door that has not been pushed fully shut.

Step-by-step

1
Push the dishwasher door firmly shut until you hear a definite click — then try starting the programme again
The door lock must fully engage before the machine will allow water to enter
2
Locate the water supply tap under the sink and confirm it is turned fully anti-clockwise to the open position
Even a quarter-turn restriction is enough to reduce flow below the threshold needed to clear F01
3
Trace the inlet hose from the tap to the back of the dishwasher and straighten all kinks and bends
Dishwasher hoses are short and stiff and kink easily behind under-sink cabinets
4
Turn the tap off, disconnect the inlet hose, and clean the small mesh filter inside the inlet port under running water
Limescale in the filter is a very common cause of slow fill that triggers F01
Diagnostic

Symptoms to look for

  1. Dishwasher will not start a programme at all
  2. Machine clicks as if to start then immediately displays F01
  3. Programme starts but stops very early with F01 shown
  4. Door appears closed but the machine will not begin filling
Step-by-step repair guide

How to fix it

Time 20–35 minutes
Skill Anyone
Check and confirm the door is fully closed

Open the door fully and close it again firmly, pushing on the outer plastic frame until you hear a clear click. The door must sit completely flush with the front of the machine.

Indesit dishwashers will not begin filling if the door lock switch has not confirmed closure — F01 is the result even when the water supply is perfectly healthy. Always confirm the door first before investigating the water supply.
Inspect the door seal and latch

Open the door and check the door seal for any items trapped in the rubber gasket around the door opening — a cloth edge, a piece of cutlery, or food debris can prevent the door from sitting flush. Also examine the door latch hook and the catch plate on the machine body for cracks or misalignment.

Do not force the door closed if you feel resistance. Identify and remove the obstruction before closing.
Clean the inlet filter mesh

Turn the tap off. Place a towel under the hose connection at the back of the machine. Unscrew the hose fitting anti-clockwise. Inside the inlet port is a small flat or cylindrical mesh filter. Remove with tweezers, rinse under running water and scrub with a toothbrush to remove limescale. Refit firmly.

Never run the dishwasher without the inlet filter. It protects the inlet valve from grit damage.
Confirm the water supply pressure

With the hose disconnected, point it into a bucket and open the tap for 3 seconds. You should see a strong, steady, uninterrupted flow. A weak trickle indicates a supply pressure problem at the property.

Indesit dishwashers require a minimum water pressure of approximately 0.5 bar. Below this, the machine will fill too slowly and display F01 even with a fully open tap and clean filter.
Inspect the inlet valve

With the dishwasher completely unplugged, remove the lower kickplate panel. The inlet valve is where the hose connects internally. Check for corrosion, cracking, or mineral deposits around the valve body.

Only access the inlet valve with the dishwasher fully unplugged. The solenoid coil carries mains voltage when energised.
Run a test cycle

Reassemble and run a Quick Wash. The machine should begin filling within 60 seconds of the door being confirmed closed and the programme started.

If the machine fills but then displays F01 partway through, the fault is intermittent — either the door lock is losing contact during the cycle or the inlet flow is borderline.
Escalation

When to call an engineer

  • Inlet valve solenoid reads open circuit on a multimeter — valve has failed
  • Door interlock switch fails a continuity test — switch must be replaced
  • Door latch hook is cracked or broken — latch assembly must be replaced
  • Water supply pressure confirmed adequate but F01 persists after filter cleaning
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Why does F01 cover both water inlet and door faults?
On Indesit dishwashers these two faults share a code because both prevent the same thing — the machine beginning its fill cycle safely. The machine checks door closure before opening the inlet valve, so either failure produces the same result.
How do I know if F01 is a door fault or a water inlet fault?
If the door clicks shut cleanly and F01 still appears after a restart, the fault is water supply related. If the door feels loose or springs back slightly when released, start with the door inspection.
Can limescale in the inlet filter cause F01?
Yes — even a partially blocked filter reduces flow below the threshold needed to trigger the fill sensor, producing F01 even with a fully open tap.
Is it safe to use the dishwasher after F01?
Not until the cause is identified and resolved. Without a secure door the dishwasher will not fill — and without adequate water it cannot wash or safely manage its heating element.
