What this error means

Anti-flood protection activated — water has been detected in the machine base

The E05 error means the Beko dishwasher's anti-flood system has detected water in the base tray beneath the tub and has automatically stopped the programme. Common causes are a leaking door seal, a split or loose internal hose, a pump seal failure, a cracked sump, or the anti-flood float switch becoming stuck in the raised position after a previous water ingress event.

Step-by-step

1
Unplug the dishwasher immediately
Water in the machine base near electrical components is a serious hazard
2
Turn off the water supply tap under the sink
If the inlet valve has a fault water may continue entering even with the machine off
3
Do not tilt or move the machine immediately
Moving it too quickly can spread water from the base tray towards electrical components
4
Place towels around the base and wait 5 minutes before opening the door to assess the tub water level

Symptoms to look for

  1. E05 displayed during any programme phase
  2. Water visible on the floor directly under the dishwasher
  3. Machine starts then immediately activates drain pump and displays E05 without completing fill
  4. Slight water film appearing under the machine after several cycles with no obvious external leak

Isolate and assess

Both unplugging and turning off the water supply are essential before inspection.

Even with the dishwasher unplugged, if the water supply tap is open and the inlet valve has a fault, water can continue entering. Turn the tap off at the wall and confirm it is closed before any further steps.
Identify the source of the water

Remove the lower kickplate panel. Shine a torch into the machine base and look for where the water originated — check around the door seal, the pump body, the sump underside, the inlet hose connection inside the machine, and the drain hose connection. Look for water staining, mineral deposits, or active dripping.

Lay dry paper towels across the base floor — check which area shows moisture first. This identifies the leak source without needing to dismantle anything.
Inspect the door seal

Open the door and examine the rubber door seal around its full circumference. Look for cracks, tears, sections that have pulled away from the door frame, or areas where the seal is unevenly compressed.

Small tears at the bottom corners of the door seal cause a thin trickle per cycle — enough to accumulate in the base tray over several washes but not obvious from outside.
Check all internal hose connections

With the kickplate removed and the machine unplugged, inspect the connections at both ends of the inlet hose inside the machine, both connections of the sump hose between the sump and the pump, and the drain hose connection at the pump outlet. Check that spring clips are in position and hoses are seated fully onto their stubs.

Do not touch any wiring or electrical connectors while any standing water is present. Dry the area first.
Dry the base tray and check the float switch

Once the source has been found and repaired, dry the base tray completely with cloths and allow at least 2 hours to air dry with the kickplate removed. The anti-flood float switch must return to its resting position on a completely dry surface before the machine will allow a cycle to run.

A base tray that appears dry but retains moisture in a corner will re-trigger E05 on the next fill. Use a torch to confirm the entire base surface is dry before reassembling.
Run a monitored test

Restore power and water and run a Quick Wash while watching closely. After 5 minutes check the base tray through the kickplate opening for any sign of new water.

Do not leave the machine unattended during the first test cycle after an E05 fault. Stop and unplug immediately if any water appears in the base.

When to call an engineer

  • Door seal is cracked, torn, or has separated from the door frame — must be replaced
  • Sump hose connection is loose or the clip has displaced — water spraying inside the base
  • Pump seal is weeping — water present around the pump body with no hose leak visible
  • Anti-flood float switch remains raised even after base tray is completely dry — switch must be replaced
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is E05 dangerous?
Water in the machine base near electrical components is a potential hazard. Always unplug and turn off the water supply before inspecting, and never touch wiring while the base is wet.
Will the E05 sensor reset itself when the base dries?
Yes — once completely dry the float switch returns to its resting position. However you must fix the source of the water first, or E05 will return immediately.
Can a small door seal tear cause E05?
Yes — a small crack at the bottom of the door seal produces a thin trickle per cycle that accumulates in the base tray over several washes and triggers the float switch.
Can I fix a leaking door seal myself?
A seal that has simply come away from its groove can be pressed back. A cracked or torn seal must be replaced. Replacement seals for most Beko dishwasher models are available online.
