What does the Samsung OC / OF error code mean?

OC (or OF) is an overflow error. The water level sensor has detected that the machine has filled beyond the maximum safe level. The machine will pump out as much water as possible and lock out. This can be caused by a faulty water inlet valve that does not close, a failed water level sensor, or excess detergent creating too much foam.

🔍 Symptoms

  1. Machine stops and displays OC or OF
  2. Water may be seen leaking from the door or underside
  3. The machine continuously pumps water (drain pump running constantly)
  4. You used too much or incorrect detergent recently
  5. The machine fills but never stops filling

How to fix the Samsung OC / OF error code

  1. Switch off and unplug the machine immediately.
  2. Open the door carefully and remove as much water as possible with towels and a sponge.
  3. Check whether you used the correct type of dishwasher detergent. Regular washing-up liquid or too much powder can cause excessive foam, which the sensor reads as overflow.
  4. After removing excess water, allow the machine to drain naturally. Tilt it slightly forward to encourage base tray drainage.
  5. If the error reappears on the next cycle with the correct detergent, the water inlet valve is likely sticking open and needs replacement. The water level pressure switch may also be faulty.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: I put washing-up liquid in by mistake — is that why I got an OC error?

A: Almost certainly. Liquid dish soap creates enormous amounts of foam that floods the machine’s sensors. Clear the foam, run several rinse cycles with the door ajar, and ensure you only ever use dedicated dishwasher tablets or powder.

Q: Can OC damage my Samsung dishwasher?

A: If water reaches the electrical components, yes. After an OC event, allow the machine to dry fully before restarting. Check underneath for water ingress.

Q: The OC error appears every time I run the machine — what is broken?

A: If it recurs consistently with the correct detergent, the inlet valve solenoid is most likely stuck partially open and is continuing to fill the machine after it should stop. Replace the inlet valve.
