What this error means

Water fill fault — the machine is not filling with water correctly

The E02 error means the machine has failed to receive sufficient water within the allowed fill time. On Beko washing machines this is most commonly caused by a closed or partially open water tap, a kinked inlet hose, or a blocked inlet filter mesh. Low water supply pressure or a faulty solenoid inlet valve will also produce this code.

Step-by-step

1
Locate the water supply tap behind the machine and confirm it is turned fully anti-clockwise to the open position
Even a quarter-turn restriction is enough to reduce flow below the fill threshold
2
Pull the machine slightly forward and trace the inlet hose from tap to machine straightening all kinks and bends
A single sharp bend can halve the flow rate and trigger E02
3
Turn the tap off, disconnect the inlet hose, and clean the small mesh filter inside the inlet port under running water
Limescale and debris in the filter is one of the most common causes in hard water areas
4
Reconnect securely, turn the tap fully on and start a Cotton 40-degree programme to test

Symptoms to look for

  1. Machine pauses immediately after starting without taking on water
  2. Programme runs but takes far longer than the display estimate
  3. E02 displayed within the first 2 to 3 minutes of a programme
  4. Drum feels dry or barely damp after the first 5 minutes

How to fix it

Time 20–35 minutes
Skill Anyone
Confirm the water tap is fully open

Find the cold water isolation tap behind or under the machine. Turn it fully anti-clockwise. If uncertain whether it moved, close it fully then reopen.

Have a towel ready before loosening any hose fittings. Water escapes under mains pressure immediately when the seal is broken.
Straighten the inlet hose

Hold the machine body and pull it carefully away from the wall. Run your hand along the full hose length and straighten every kink and bend. Push the machine back while watching to ensure it does not kink again.

If the hose kinks every time the machine is pushed back, fit a 90-degree inlet hose elbow. This permanently resolves recurring kinking at very low cost.
Clean the inlet filter mesh

Turn the tap off fully. Fold a towel under the hose connection at the back of the machine. Unscrew the hose fitting anti-clockwise. Inside the inlet port is a small mesh filter. Remove with tweezers, rinse under running water and scrub with an old toothbrush. Refit firmly.

Never run the machine without the inlet filter. It protects the inlet valve from grit and debris that would permanently damage the valve seat.
Test the supply pressure

With the hose disconnected, point it into a bucket and briefly open the tap for 3 seconds. You should see a strong, steady, uninterrupted flow. A weak trickle indicates a supply pressure problem — Beko machines require a minimum of 0.5 bar.

If pressure is consistently low a plumber can confirm whether the household stopcock is partially closed.
Inspect the inlet valve

With the machine completely unplugged and water off, remove the rear panel. The inlet valve is where the hose connects internally — a solenoid block with one or two coils. Check for corrosion, cracking, or mineral build-up.

Only access the inlet valve with the machine fully unplugged. The solenoid coils carry mains voltage when energised.
Run a test cycle

Reassemble everything, turn water on fully and start a 40-degree programme. Watch the first 3 minutes — you should hear water entering and the display should begin counting down.

If the machine fills slowly but reaches level without faulting, the filter needs a deeper clean with a descaling tablet run through an empty 90-degree cycle.

When to call an engineer

  • Water supply pressure confirmed adequate but E02 persists after filter cleaning
  • Inlet valve solenoid reads open circuit on a multimeter — valve has failed
  • Valve not opening despite receiving power — confirmed by multimeter testing
  • Wiring to the inlet valve is burnt, corroded, or the connector has melted
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Why does E02 appear even though the water is connected?
The flow rate may be too slow rather than absent. A partially closed tap or partially blocked filter restricts flow enough to trigger the timeout.
What minimum pressure does a Beko washing machine need?
Beko specifies a minimum of 0.5 bar. Below this E02 will appear even with a fully open tap and clean filter.
Can limescale cause E02?
Yes — in hard water areas limescale builds up in the filter mesh and inlet valve seat. Clean the filter every 3 months and descale every 3 to 6 months.
Is it safe to run the machine after E02?
Not until the cause is resolved. Without adequate water the machine cannot wash, rinse, or safely cool its heating element.
