What this error means
Water level fault — the pressure switch is not reading the water level correctly
The F11 error on an Indesit dishwasher means the pressure switch — which monitors the water level in the machine — has either failed, is not receiving a pressure signal from the water level chamber, or is detecting an incorrect level. This is most commonly caused by a blocked pressure hose or chamber, a failed pressure switch, or a wiring fault. It can also indicate an overfill condition if the switch is not triggering at the correct level.

Step-by-step
Symptoms to look for
- Dishwasher fills then pauses for an unusually long time before beginning to wash
- Tub fills to a higher than normal level — water visible near the door seal
- F11 displayed during the fill phase, mid-wash, or at the end of the drain phase
- Machine behaviour is inconsistent — sometimes completing cycles normally, sometimes faulting
Diagnostic steps
Unplug the machine and hold the programme selector or power button for 10 seconds to discharge the control board. Leave unplugged for 60 seconds. Plug back in and run a short 40-degree cycle. Observe whether F11 reappears and at which point in the cycle — during fill, during wash, or at drain.
With the machine unplugged, remove the inner door panel or the side panel depending on the Indesit model — the pressure switch is typically mounted in the door assembly or at the upper side of the machine. Locate the narrow hose running from the water level chamber (a small float chamber at the base of the tub) up to the pressure switch. Check the full length for kinks, cracks, or disconnection.
Disconnect the hose from both the chamber and the pressure switch. Blow firmly through the full length — airflow should be completely unobstructed. If restricted, flush with warm water and dry fully before refitting. Using a cotton bud, clean out the hose stubs on both the chamber and the switch, removing any detergent residue or limescale.
With the hose disconnected from the switch and the wiring connector removed, test across the switch terminals with a multimeter. Gently blow into the hose port — the resistance should change or a click should be audible as the switch activates. A switch that shows OL in all states and produces no click when blown into has failed.
Trace the wiring from the pressure switch to the main control board. The connector must be fully seated with clean, uncorroded pins. Disconnect and firmly reconnect the connector.
Push the pressure hose firmly onto both stubs. Reassemble any removed panels. Run a full Normal programme while remaining present for the complete cycle. Confirm the machine fills correctly, washes, and drains without F11 appearing.
When to call an engineer
- Pressure switch shows OL in all states and produces no click when blown into — switch has failed
- Pressure hose is cracked, split, or has detached from one of its stub fittings
- Machine overfills even after hose clearing and switch confirmation — control board fault
- Wiring connector to pressure switch is corroded and cannot be fully cleaned and reseated
