What does the LG FE error code mean?

FE (Fill Error / Overflow) means the water level in the drum has exceeded the maximum safe level. The machine is overfilling. This is almost always caused by a faulty water inlet valve that is not fully closing when it should, or a failed pressure sensor that is not correctly measuring the water level.

How to fix the LG FE error code

  1. Stop the machine immediately and unplug it.
  2. Set the machine to drain and spin to empty the excess water if the machine will allow it.
  3. Check the water inlet valve at the back of the machine — if water continues to trickle in even when the machine is off and unplugged (unlikely but possible if the valve is mechanically stuck open), turn off the water supply at the tap.
  4. The water inlet valve is the most likely component to replace — it can fail in an ‘open’ position allowing water to continually enter.
  5. A pressure switch fault is the second possibility — the machine fills correctly but cannot detect when it is full.
