What this error means
EEPROM fault — the control board has detected a memory corruption or read error
The F09 error means the main control board's EEPROM memory chip — which stores the machine's programme data, cycle settings, and configuration — has reported a read or write error. This is typically caused by a power surge corrupting the stored data, a failing EEPROM chip, or in rare cases a control board that has been exposed to moisture. F09 cannot be resolved by cleaning or adjusting mechanical components — it is an electronics fault.

Step-by-step
Symptoms to look for
- Machine will not start any programme — F09 appears immediately
- Machine starts briefly then stops with F09 displayed
- Controls appear to respond but no programme will run to completion
- F09 appears consistently on every attempt with no variation
Diagnostic steps
Unplug the machine and press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain capacitor charge from the control board. Leave unplugged for a minimum of 15 minutes. Plug back in and try the simplest available programme from a cold start.
On some Indesit models a full programme reset can be performed by turning the programme dial to the Off position, waiting 30 seconds, then selecting a new programme. Refer to your model's user manual for the specific reset procedure.
With the machine unplugged, remove the top panel by undoing the two rear screws. Examine the main control board for any signs of moisture ingress — watermarks, rust staining, corrosion on connector pins, or condensation marks on the board surface. Moisture reaching the EEPROM chip or its surrounding circuitry causes read and write errors.
While the top panel is removed, disconnect and firmly reseat every wiring connector on the control board. A marginal connection to the board power supply can cause intermittent EEPROM read errors that appear as F09.
If F09 returns on every cycle after an extended reset, the EEPROM chip has permanently failed or the board has suffered damage that cannot be resolved without component-level repair. The control board must be replaced.
When to call an engineer
- F09 persists on every cycle after a 15-minute power discharge — control board must be replaced
- Visible moisture damage, corrosion, or burn marks on the control board surface
- Control board has been exposed to water ingress — replacement required
- F09 appeared immediately after a power surge — board EEPROM has been corrupted
