What does the Hotpoint F03 error code mean?

F03 indicates a fault with the NTC thermistor — the temperature sensor inside the drum that tells the machine how hot the water is. If this sensor fails, the machine does not know when the correct wash temperature has been reached, so it pauses or stops the programme.

How to fix the Hotpoint F03 error code

  1. Run a 40°C wash — if it completes but hotter washes fail, the thermistor is likely reading inaccurately rather than being completely dead.
  2. Unplug the machine. The NTC thermistor is located on the heating element assembly, inside the drum area.
  3. Access it by removing the front panel (on most Hotpoint models) and the door seal.
  4. Test the thermistor with a multimeter — it should read approximately 20,000 ohms at room temperature. A very high reading or open circuit indicates failure.
  5. Replacement thermistors are inexpensive at £5–15 and clip into place.
