What this error means
Drainage failure
E24 is a drainage failure code. The dishwasher has been unable to pump out the waste water within the expected time. The most frequent causes are a blocked drain filter, a kinked or obstructed drain hose, or a blockage at the connection to the kitchen sink waste pipe.
Also known as: Same as Bosch & Siemens E24

Step-by-step
Symptoms to look for
- Water is sitting in the bottom of the dishwasher after the cycle ends
- The machine stops partway through a cycle
- A humming or buzzing noise from the pump area with no water movement
- Error code appears at the end of a cycle
- Dishes remain wet and dirty after what should have been a completed wash
How to fix it
A blocked filter is the most common cause of E24
It should loop up high before connecting to the waste pipe — this prevents back-siphoning. Ensure it is not kinked or squashed. Even the slightest bend or kink can cause the error.
Disconnect the drain hose from the sink waste/standpipe and check for blockages inside the hose itself.
If it has a blanking plug that was never removed, the water has nowhere to go. This could be the case if the machine has just been installed.
Run a ‘Rinse’ or ‘Quick’ programme and listen to the drain pump. A constant hum with no water movement suggests the impeller is jammed — remove the filter and try to clear any debris from the pump housing.
When to call an engineer
- The E24 error keeps returning after cleaning the filter and drain hose
- The dishwasher won’t drain at all, even after clearing visible blockages
- The drain pump is silent or not running during the drain cycle
- You hear unusual noises (humming, grinding) from the pump area
- The drain hose and plumbing are clear, but the issue persists
- There may be a faulty drain pump or internal blockage you can’t access
- You’re unable to safely remove panels or inspect internal component
