What this error means

Drain pump impeller blocked or jammed

E25 on a Neff dishwasher (identical to Bosch and Siemens E25) means the drain pump impeller is jammed or physically blocked. The machine detects that the pump motor is running but the impeller cannot rotate, preventing water from being expelled.

Also known as: Same as Siemens & Bosch E25

Unplug the Machine
Never work on a powered appliance. Remove from the socket, not just the switch.

Remove filter assembly
Twist the cylindrical filter anti-clockwise and lift out. Remove the flat mesh filter beneath it.
3
Remove drain pump cover
Use needle nose pliers or a spoon to unclip the cover and remove.
4
Inspect and remove debris blocking impeller
Use tweezers to pull out any debris.
5
Rotate impeller (should spin freely)
Use Tweezers or cut resistant gloves
6
Re-assemble and run test cycle
The E25 error should clear.

Step-by-step repair guide

How to fix it

Time 10 - 15 Minutes
Skill Anyone
Unplug the machine. Use a sponge or turkey baster to remove as much standing water from the base as possible.
Always unplug the appliance before carrying out any inspection / repair
Remove the filter assembly completely as described in the E22 guide.

A quarter turn anti-clockwise usually releases the filter.

With the filter removed, you will see the drain pump cover — a round plastic cover usually secured with a quarter-turn. Remove it.

You may need a pair of pliers to help free the cover from its housing.

Check inside the pump housing carefully for fragments of glass, small bones, or hard debris.

Use needle-nose pliers or tweezers to remove any foreign objects.

Broken glass is a common culprit always ware gloves or use tweezers to reach inside to remove the blockage.
Try to rotate the impeller (small plastic fan) with your finger — it should spin freely. If it is stiff or seized, clean around it with an old toothbrush.
Gloves are recommended due to the likelihood of glass being present.
Reassemble, reconnect power, and run a Rinse programme to test drainage.
Run a cleaning cycle with a dishwasher cleaner to flush the system after removing the blockage.

When to call an engineer

  • The impeller is damaged, loose, or won’t spin freely after removing debris
  • You hear loud grinding or rattling noises even after clearing the pump
  • The E25 error keeps returning despite cleaning the filter and pump
  • The drain pump is making noise but not moving water at all
  • There are signs of a burnt smell or electrical fault from the pump area
  • You suspect the drain pump motor has failed
  • You’re unable to safely access or remove the pump cover
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between E24 and E25 on a Neff dishwasher?
E24 is a general drainage fault (the water did not leave in time). E25 is more specific — it means the drain pump impeller itself is blocked or mechanically jammed.
A piece of broken glass went into the machine — could that cause E25?
Almost certainly yes. Even a small shard can wedge in the impeller and stop it from rotating. This is the most common cause of E25.
Do I need a plumber or engineer for E25?
No. Clearing the pump impeller is a straightforward DIY job that takes around 15 minutes.
